Welcome to Roper's Honey website

Here you can buy online, find out more information about us, see which markets we will be attending and read our
Roper's News page to see what we are doing with our bees.
We are based in a small village called Glapwell in Chesterfield, Derbyshire (near Bolsover Castle and Hardwick Hall).
Keeping bees has been in the family since the late 1950's and was turned into a business in 1997, we've been growing in size
and are now the largest honey producers in Derbyshire.
We currently have just over 100 colonies of bees spread around Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire managed by 3 beekeepers
(Father, son and grandson) and 2 wanna-bees (aged 12yrs and 9yrs). See our 'About Roper's Honey' page.
The is a picture of our Sutton Woods Apiary, it was set up by Mac Roper in the late 50s and is still very much in use today,
it is occupied by more than 20 colonies of bees, we also use this apiary for demonstration purposes.
As the season progresses, we add more Supers (boxes filled with frames) to the hives for the bees to fill with honey,
some of the hives become taller than Tim (nearly 6ft).
By this summer (2012) we will have 14 Apiaries in use:
Site nr Arkwright, 2 x Barlow, Bothamsall, Duckmanton, Holymoorside, Norbriggs, 2 x Sitwell, Stainsby Mill, Sutton Scarsdale, Sutton Spring Woods, Sutton Woods, Whaley.
